Footage has emerged online that allegedly shows an unreleased Iron Man game developed by Avalanche Studios, the studio behind the Just Cause and Mad Max series. The project, which was never officially announced, was reportedly in development in the early 2010s.

Christofer Sundberg, a co-founder of Avalanche Studios, confirmed the existence of the canceled Iron Man game in a 2022 interview. The newly surfaced gameplay, reportedly originating from a PlayStation 3 developer kit, depicts Iron Man in flight, engaging with jets and attacking various installations. One extended video appears to be an unfinished E3 demo showcasing a combat style reminiscent of the Arkham series, with Iron Man fighting soldiers hand-to-hand while also utilizing his signature repulsors and missiles.

The leaked footage also suggests that environments were designed to be at least partially destructible, with Iron Man capable of throwing enemies through walls, creating shortcuts by destroying obstacles, and damaging surrounding buildings. While the build is clearly unfinished and doesn't heavily distinguish itself from earlier Iron Man titles, the gameplay demonstrates potential, especially considering Avalanche's success with open-world mechanics in the Just Cause series and the engaging combat in their Mad Max game.

While this Avalanche project did not come to fruition, Iron Man is slated to return in a new game currently under development by EA Motive. This new title entered development in 2022, though details remain scarce. EA Motive was also previously working on a Black Panther game that was canceled last year, but the Iron Man project is reportedly still in development.
