Details have emerged regarding Star Wars: Magellan, an unannounced action role-playing game that was reportedly in development at the now-defunct studio Echtra Games. The project was brought to light when a former Echtra employee shared gameplay clips and design documents online, offering a glimpse into what could have been a BioWare-inspired Star Wars experience.

Echtra Games, previously known for its work on Torchlight III, was closed by its parent company Zynga in June 2025, bringing an abrupt end to all its projects, including Magellan. The leaked materials suggest the game would have featured two playable protagonists: a Twi'lek Jedi identified as "The Hunted Jedi" and a Mandalorian warrior called "The Exile." In-game files also referred to these characters as Cleric and Triggerman, respectively.

The project appeared to incorporate multiplayer elements, allowing players to team up as the Jedi or Mandalorian to battle various enemies, including Stormtroopers, droids, and alien creatures. A significant feature highlighted in the leaked documents was an "NPC Bond system." This mechanic suggested that players could cultivate relationships with non-player characters, which would, in turn, influence the game's narrative, a design choice drawing comparisons to BioWare's signature storytelling approach.

While the exact nature of these NPC relationships—whether focusing on friendship or romance—remains unclear, the inclusion of such a system points to an ambition for deeper player investment in the game's characters and story. The visual design, particularly for the Twi'lek and Stormtroopers, shows a resemblance to Zynga's multiplayer title Star Wars: Hunters, which has also been shut down. However, the gameplay mechanics, including lightsaber abilities and shooting, seem distinct enough to suggest that Magellan was not intended as a mobile or free-to-play title.

The cancellation of Star Wars: Magellan represents the loss of a potentially compelling title in the Star Wars gaming universe. Despite this setback, fans can look forward to other upcoming Star Wars games, including Star Wars: Zero Company, scheduled for release on August 27, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, planned for October 6.
