A teaser trailer for a cancelled Myst game, codenamed Project Anglerfish, has been released by Cyan Studios. The video, titled 'A path not taken,' offers a glimpse into the puzzle-adventure game that was in development for approximately four months over a year ago.
Development director Hannah Gamiel and creative director Eric A. Anderson shared the trailer on the Cyan YouTube channel, explaining that the project was shelved for "a variety of reasons." The trailer itself was originally intended for publisher review and was not meant for public release. However, the team decided to share it as a "nice public send-off" for the project due to their pride in the work accomplished.
The trailer showcases gameplay featuring puzzle-solving within the Myst universe, with the player exploring subterranean environments and searching for a mysterious book. The visual style is described as beautiful, with a focus on exploration and intricate puzzles.
Despite the cancellation of Project Anglerfish, Cyan Studios confirmed that they are continuing to work on new games and experiences set within the Myst universe. This suggests that while this particular project will not see the light of day, the franchise's future remains active.
