Capcom is set to make Monster Hunter Wilds more accessible with a permanent price reduction and the introduction of new game editions. These changes, announced via social media on July 13, will take effect on August 3.
Starting August 3 at 8:00 p.m. ET, the current purchase options for Monster Hunter Wilds, including the base game, Deluxe edition, and Premium Deluxe edition, will be discontinued. A Cosmetic DLC Pass, which offers in-game skins and customization options, will also no longer be available as a separate purchase.
Capcom will introduce three new offerings alongside the base game. The Extras Cosmetic DLC pack will consolidate several paid cosmetic items previously sold individually. The Cosmetic DLC Collection will bundle 10 DLC packs, encompassing all items from the Extras Pack. A new Gold edition will also be released, combining the base game with all the content from the Cosmetic DLC Collection. Notably, all premium bonuses previously associated with the Premium Deluxe edition will be included in this new Gold edition.
While pricing for the new Gold edition and cosmetic bundles has not yet been announced, the base game will receive a permanent price reduction starting August 4. The current price for the base game is $69.99, though the amount of the price cut has not been specified. Capcom has historically offered substantial price reductions, leading to speculation that the base game could fall between $40 and $50 post-reduction. This could position the Gold Edition at the current base game price point.
Monser Hunter Wilds has achieved significant commercial success, selling 8 million copies within its first three days of release, making it Capcom's fastest-selling game to date. Despite its popularity, the latest installment has seen mixed reactions from both new and long-time fans. A review noted that while the game represents a technical advancement, "the core identity of the series is getting lost along the way." A paid expansion, Ascendance, is slated for release in 2027.
Monser Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also in development.
