Capcom has maintained a remarkable streak of successful game releases, with its latest financial report detailing substantial sales figures that highlight the enduring popularity of its key franchises.
In the recent reporting period, Resident Evil Village saw an additional one million units sold, bringing its cumulative total to over eight million copies. Furthermore, the sci-fi shooter Pragmata, which experienced several delays, has achieved 2.5 million sales, a notable success for a new intellectual property that integrates puzzle elements into its combat encounters.
The company's overall sales performance shows a marked increase, with 23.81 million games sold in the last quarter, a significant jump from the 14.16 million units sold during the same period last year. This surge is particularly impressive considering the competitive landscape that included major releases from other publishers.
Capcom's back catalog continues to be a strong performer, with seven of the top 10 highest-selling games last quarter originating from older Resident Evil titles. The 2023 release of Resident Evil 4 was the second highest-selling game for the quarter. Devil May Cry 5, originally released in 2019, also demonstrated sustained sales, moving 129,000 new copies. This ongoing success is attributed to factors such as related media tie-ins, frequent digital sales, and the overall health and recognition of Capcom's established franchises.
The Resident Evil series itself has now surpassed 213 million units sold since its inception in 1996. This milestone positions it as the third best-selling Japanese gaming franchise globally, trailing only Mario and Pokémon, and notably overtaking Final Fantasy for that rank.
