Capcom Reimagines Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies for VR, Bypassing Fan Demand for a New Sequel

Capcom is bringing Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies to virtual reality next year, a move that has surprised and perhaps disappointed fans hoping for a new entry in the franchise. This marks the fourth release of the 2013 title, which was originally launched on the Nintendo 3DS. The upcoming VR version is a complete remake designed to offer players a more immersive courtroom experience.

The original Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies was notable for its shift to 3D graphics, departing from the series' traditional 2D pixel art. This VR remake rebuilds the game's environments and interactions for a first-person perspective, allowing players to step into the shoes of defense attorneys like Phoenix Wright. Early footage suggests players will be able to physically object to prosecution arguments and present evidence within the virtual courtroom. It is anticipated that the investigation segments will also be adapted for VR.

Despite the technical advancements, the decision to port Dual Destinies to VR has raised questions among the fanbase. With many players eagerly awaiting Ace Attorney 7, the focus on another rerelease, particularly for a platform with limited adoption for the series, has led to speculation about Capcom's development priorities. Currently, there are no other Ace Attorney titles available in VR.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies in VR is slated for release in 2027 and will require a Meta Quest headset. While it offers a novel way to experience the courtroom drama, it remains to be seen if this virtual reality iteration will satisfy the long-standing demand for a new chapter in the Ace Attorney saga.
