Card Collector Faces Devastation After $100,000 Collection Stolen from FedEx Truck

A collector known as Sky-B has experienced a devastating loss after a FedEx truck carrying his $100,000 trading card collection was burglarized in Southern California. The grading company PSA confirmed the incident, notifying Sky-B that his order was among those impacted by the theft.

"We understand how upsetting this news must be," PSA stated in an email to Sky-B, according to reports. "While your items were not in our possession at the time of the burglary, we take our role in helping secure your items seriously and will work with you to resolve this situation as best we can."

Sky-B had spent over two years amassing the collection and submitted it to PSA for grading, insuring it for up to $156,000. The grading fees alone cost him $8,000. He shared details of some high-value cards, including a Tyrese Maxey card with a projected PSA 10 value of $1,911 and a Caleb Williams PSA 10 estimated at around $1,500. He expressed that the financial loss is compounded by the fact that he may never see these cards again.

PSA has stated it will compensate affected customers based on fair market value, up to the Maximum Insured Value each customer selected. The company is working with law enforcement to investigate the theft and has deactivated the certificates for the stolen items. Marketplace partners have also been notified to watch for the compromised cards.

This incident appears to have affected other collectors as well. Reports have emerged of other valuable cards, such as a specific One Piece card, being stolen from the same FedEx truck. Some speculate that the total value of the stolen haul could exceed $1 million, with one report highlighting a single Zoro PSA 10 card valued at $500,000.

"The FedEx heist is bigger than we think. Just one card alone in the truck, c07 Roronoa Zoro PSA 10 pop 12, was valued at 500k and it was being transported to its final destination in that truck," one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Another collector on Reddit reported their "Smaug The Magnificent" card was stolen in the same incident.

A PSA representative confirmed the company is aware of the theft involving a third-party shipping vehicle and is cooperating with law enforcement and the carrier. "We have deactivated the certificates for the stolen items and notified marketplace partners so they can be on the lookout for rare and serialized items," the statement read. "Our customer service team has contacted affected customers directly and is arranging compensation based on fair market value. We understand the impact this has on collectors involved, many of whom see these cards as far more than a financial asset. Our team is focused on supporting them."

For collectors like Sky-B, the event represents a worst-case scenario: entrusting valuable items to a shipping service only to have them lost or stolen before they can even be returned. "Honestly, that’s what hurts the most, outside of obviously being absolutely financially destroyed here," Sky-B said. "I am currently out all of the money that it cost to acquire these cards, I’m out all the PSA grading fees, and I don’t have and I probably will never see any of these cards in person."
