Evil Empire, the studio behind Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, has stated that no generative artificial intelligence tools were used in the game's development. Konami, the publisher, also confirmed that AI was not employed on their end.
During interviews conducted in Paris, France, where journalists were given a three-hour preview of the game, developers from both studios addressed the topic of AI in game creation. Tsutomu Taniguchi, a producer at Konami, confirmed that the company has not used AI and currently has no defined stance on its future use. "From Konami's point, you know, we haven't used AI. And we don't know what's going to happen next, but we don't really have a stance on it," Taniguchi said through a translator.
Bérenger Dupré, marketing director at Evil Empire, made a lighthearted remark about using AI for sentence correction in English. However, Emmanuel Nouaille, creative director at Evil Empire, provided a more definitive statement regarding the game itself. "To answer the question of the game, no AI," Nouaille stated. He emphasized the importance of authentic creation and infusing the game with the team's "soul." While not expressing a direct opposition to AI in general, Nouaille asserted that its use was not part of their development process for this specific title, citing the desire for "real creation" and the team's contribution.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 15. Further details, including exclusive art and hands-on impressions, are expected in an upcoming issue of Game Informer.
