CD Projekt Red has reduced the development team for its upcoming Witcher spinoff, codenamed Project Sirius, by more than 20 percent. The company confirmed that nine employees have been laid off, stating the adjustment was made to "reflect the project's needs at this stage of development." Four employees in Boston and five in Warsaw were affected.

Additionally, nine other staff members have been offered internal recruitment opportunities for other CD Projekt Red projects. This reduction represents a significant portion of the team dedicated to Project Sirius, which stood at 83 individuals as of CD Projekt's Q1 2026 financial report. The layoffs were first reported by Kotaku.

Project Sirius has experienced a complex development cycle since its announcement in 2021. At that time, CD Projekt acquired The Molasses Flood, intending for the studio to work on an "ambitious project" based on one of CDPR's existing properties. Initially, The Molasses Flood was slated to maintain its distinct identity, but this changed in 2025 when CD Projekt fully integrated the studio into its operations. This integration followed previous difficulties with Project Sirius, which ultimately led to a reboot and an "updated direction" for the game. Despite these developments over five years since the acquisition, details about the game, including its final title, remain largely unknown.
