CD Projekt Red has unveiled extended gameplay for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's upcoming DLC, titled 'Songs of the Past.' The new content, showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live and subsequent streams, features Geralt of Rivia investigating mysteries in the countryside community of Letten. Over 15 minutes of gameplay footage has been released, offering a glimpse into the expansion's narrative and new mechanics.

The expansion's story centers on Geralt's search for Dandelion, who appears to be in trouble within Letten. The region is depicted with a stark contrast between its daytime appearance and nighttime reality. During the day, Letten presents a vibrant, bucolic landscape with colorful scenery and elegant villas, a notable departure from the often somber environments of the base game. However, as night falls, this facade gives way to a gothic, unsettling atmosphere, suggesting a hidden darkness within the community.

Gameplay sequences in the footage include Geralt engaging in combat against monsters. A new weapon, Geralt's chain, is showcased. This tool can be used to manage groups of enemies by pulling individual foes closer for targeted attacks, akin to Scorpion's spear from Mortal Kombat. The chain is also noted to function similarly to the crossbow, with the ability to slow down time for precise aiming.

This new expansion is set to release sometime next year. It will be accompanied by a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, scheduled for release on September 29. This updated version includes graphical enhancements, refined combat, a revamped skill system, and other improvements. Notably, the remastered edition will be a free upgrade for all existing owners of the game.
