CD Projekt Red has provided a significant update on "Project Hadar," its first entirely original intellectual property. CDPR CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed in an interview with Biznes Pap that the development team has completed the "world vision" stage for the new standalone game.
"This has been our biggest undertaking to date, taking us several years, but at this point we can say we have a coherent vision for this world and its key elements," Nowakowski stated. He elaborated that the team has begun work on the game, though it is not yet in pre-production. Small prototypes and gameplay elements are currently being tested.
Project Hadar was first announced four years ago as part of CD Projekt Red's long-term product outlook. At the time, the company described it as being in the earliest stages of the creative process, with work focused on establishing the foundation for its new setting rather than developing the game itself. This new IP will be CDPR's first original creation, following its adaptations of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series and Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk tabletop RPG.
CD Projekt Red has a packed release schedule. The next major release will be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, an expansion set for sometime in 2027. This marks the game's first expansion in over a decade. The Witcher 4, intended to begin a new Witcher trilogy, is planned for 2028. The sequel will focus on Ciri taking over as a monster hunter. The studio aims to release the new Witcher trilogy over a six-year span, which would place hypothetical releases for The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 in 2031 and 2034, respectively. A remake of the original Witcher game and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel are also in development.
