CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the acclaimed Witcher series, is committed to developing its upcoming games, including The Witcher 4, with a predominantly human workforce, according to joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski.
Speaking during a recent earnings briefing, Nowakowski acknowledged the increasing prevalence of artificial intelligence in game development, stating that AI "is definitely becoming a thing in games development." However, he clarified that CD Projekt Red's approach will not involve relying on AI to create entire games. Instead, the studio views AI as a tool to assist developers in specific areas where it can be beneficial, but the core creative and development processes will remain human-driven.
Nowakowski explained that the complexity of the games CD Projekt Red creates makes an AI-centric development model neither the "right nor ethical path to follow." He suggested that each studio must independently determine its own policies regarding the use of AI, emphasizing that "everybody has to make those judgments on their own."
The Witcher 4, slated for a 2028 release, will mark the beginning of a new trilogy. In addition to this highly anticipated title, CD Projekt Red is also working on Cyberpunk 2 and a multiplayer-focused Witcher game.
