CD Projekt has officially rebranded as CD Projekt Red, unifying its corporate identity under the name of its renowned game development studio. This decision, approved by stakeholders at the company's latest general meeting, consolidates the broader corporate entity and its development arms under a single, recognizable banner.
Previously, CD Projekt Red specifically denoted the part of the company responsible for game development and its associated studios. The wider corporate structure, CD Projekt, encompassed other subsidiaries, such as GOG before its sale. This distinction, while clear to industry insiders, could occasionally lead to confusion for the public regarding news emanating from the studio versus its parent company.
The company stated that the rebranding aims to "ensure consistency in the communication of the CD Projekt Red brand." This move is expected to simplify identification with its products on the global market and potentially bolster recruitment efforts by clearly aligning the corporate identity with its successful game development output.
This brand unification follows a period where CD Projekt Red has been candid about its past challenges, including the difficult launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski recently reflected on that period as "heartbreaking," acknowledging the impact on the studio's reputation, which he described as its "biggest asset."
