Chadley, the AI assistant who played a significant role in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is set to return for the final installment of the remake trilogy, currently subtitled Revelation. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that Chadley will not be relegated to the sidelines and will instead feature more prominently in the main story.
In Revelation, Chadley will have his own dedicated laboratory aboard the Highwind airship, where he will be conducting research related to the encroaching meteor. While Chadley's role in guiding players through open-world activities in Rebirth has been passed to his AI assistant Mai, who will now serve as the field guide, Chadley himself will be more integrated into the narrative.
"In terms of the role that Chadley had in Rebirth, where he would guide you around the various areas and continents that you see on the world map, that role has been given to Mai in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation," Hamaguchi explained. "Chadley, in Revelation, he's going to have a slightly different role where we'll see a bit more of him in the main story."
This expansion of Chadley's role marks a steady growth for the character since his introduction. Initially conceived as a way to implement summon battles as challenge content in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Chadley's backstory and character design made him a convenient NPC to anchor this feature. For Rebirth, his function evolved to assist with open-world exploration, guiding players through its vast landscapes.
The character of Chadley was first introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, where he provided players with access to combat simulators and assistance with acquiring summons. His presence in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was significantly expanded, with the "CHAD Module" integrating him into virtually all open-world activities. This omnipresence, often marked by frequent in-game communications, was a point of contention for some players, though the ability to skip his dialogue offered a workaround.
While Mai will now handle the field guidance, it is implied she may still offer commentary during certain tasks, similar to her role in Rebirth. Hamaguchi also hinted at humorous and adorable moments between Chadley and Mai, suggesting their dynamic will continue to entertain players. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is slated for release in April 2027 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
