Chinese GPU Wholesale Prices Surge, Hinting at Future Consumer Price Hikes

Wholesale prices for several Nvidia RTX 50-series graphics cards are reportedly on the rise in China, according to hardware outlet ChannelGate. This trend may signal further price increases for consumers worldwide.

The 16 GB RTX 5080 has seen an estimated increase of approximately 2000 CNY, equivalent to around $300, pushing its wholesale spot price into the $2,171-$2,246 range. The RTX 5070 Ti has also experienced a rise of about 600 CNY, or $90. These increases come amid already elevated GPU prices in the US, where the cheapest available RTX 5080 is currently listed at $1,850. Furthermore, the price gap between the RTX 5050, RTX 5060, and RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB has narrowed significantly, with the cheapest RTX 5050 now costing $400.

While the RTX 5080 16 GB has seen the most substantial price jump, potentially exacerbated by reports of its discontinuation in favor of a 24 GB version, Asus has reportedly updated its pricing policy across its product line. This includes a 1000 yuan ($150) increase for the RTX 5080 16 GB, a 200 yuan ($30) increase for the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5070, and RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, and 100-300 yuan increases for AMD cards.

The wholesale price for the anticipated RTX 5080 24 GB is speculated to reach 19,999 yuan, which converts to nearly $3,000 at current exchange rates. These rising costs contribute to a challenging market for PC hardware upgrades, compounded by ongoing global memory crises and GPU production shortages.
