Original X-Files creator Chris Carter believes that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who portrayed FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively, will appear in Ryan Coogler's upcoming reboot of the iconic science fiction series. Carter shared this speculation in a recent interview with Polygon.
The nature of Coogler's project has been a subject of fan inquiry, with questions arising about whether it would be a complete continuity reset or a continuation of the established X-Files timeline. Carter's comments suggest the latter, indicating that the new series will acknowledge the events of the original run.
Carter stated that he is "pretty sure" both Duchovny and Anderson will feature in the reboot. While he has not yet seen Coogler's version of the series, he anticipates that Fox executives will be able to determine whether the new show will complement or compete with the original continuity once they have reviewed it.
Beyond the reboot, Carter expressed his own aspirations for future X-Files content. "I would love to do either another reboot, or another movie," he said, adding that he has "big ideas" for future television series or films that would continue the saga of Mulder and Scully, though he did not elaborate on specific plans for their characters' narrative closure.
