Chris Evans revealed that he has received "at least a dozen pitches" for his potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers. These discussions, which began as early as 2018, reportedly included the possibility of him embodying the Nomad persona.

Evans stated that Marvel Studios executives Lou D'Esposito and Kevin Feige initially approached him about continuing with Steve Rogers as Nomad shortly after the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame. While the pitch was "great," Evans explained it "didn't feel right at the time," as he was protective of the character's conclusion and wanted to preserve his MCU legacy. He encouraged Marvel to continue presenting ideas, leading to what he described as a period of "at least a dozen pitches" over eight years.

The actor indicated that a significant factor in his eventual decision to return was the involvement of Robert Downey Jr. Upon hearing rumors of Downey Jr.'s discussions with Marvel, Evans felt that the timing was finally appropriate. He cited receiving the pitch from co-director Joe Russo, coupled with Downey Jr.'s return, as the moment it "just all of a sudden… it was like, 'This is it.'"

While some footage has shown Evans' return as Steve Rogers, details surrounding his role and how he reappears remain scarce. However, Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie offered a hint during a recent interview. Mackie suggested that Steve Rogers will not reclaim the Captain America mantle upon his return for the upcoming film, implicitly supporting the idea that the long-discussed Nomad concept might now be part of his storyline.

"Steve Rogers in the comic book – there is a comic book," Mackie stated, addressing the possibility. "You say you're a nerd. Read the comic book. Don't be a nerd by trade, be a nerd by fact. So, in the comic book, Steve Rogers becomes Nomad."

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on December 18, 2026. The film is expected to feature the return of Evans as Steve Rogers, alongside Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Anthony Mackie carrying the Captain America shield.
