Christopher Abbott Prepares for MCU's Professor X by Practicing Remote Viewing

Christopher Abbott, slated to portray Charles Xavier in Marvel's forthcoming X-Men film, has adopted an unconventional approach to preparing for the role of the iconic psychic. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Abbott shared that his preparation involves an exercise in remote viewing, a parapsychological discipline where individuals attempt to perceive distant or unseen objects or information.

While Abbott acknowledged he does not intend to fully adopt a method acting approach or attempt to become genuinely psychic, he has engaged in practical exercises. He described an instance where a friend, situated in a different location, created a drawing while Abbott attempted to replicate it using mental abilities. Though he did not perfectly capture the drawing, he came close to depicting a large painting present in the room, attributing his efforts to a focus on "crystals" and suggesting the full narrative of his attempts to explore the limits of consciousness would require a more extensive recounting.

Marvel officially announced Abbott's casting as Professor X during San Diego Comic-Con. The film, directed by Jake Schreier, is expected to begin production next year with a release date set for May 5, 2028. This marks a significant moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing the X-Men into the established cinematic continuity. Sadie Sink will reprise her role as Jean Grey, having debuted in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The announced cast also includes Kit Connor as Cyclops, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Reports also indicate Samara Weaving will portray Emma Frost, and Asa Germann will play Angel.
