Ahead of the July 17 release of Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, an official companion game has launched on Roblox. Titled The Odyssey: Defy the Gods, the title is a free-to-play survival sailing adventure where players must assemble a crew, manage dwindling supplies, and navigate treacherous seas to appease the gods for safe passage.
Players will explore mysterious environments to locate missing crew members and scavenge for food, all while enduring the harsh elements mirroring Odysseus's epic journey. The game is designed to immerse players in the challenges faced by the film's protagonist.
Developed for Roblox, Defy the Gods carries a "Minimal" maturity rating. In line with Roblox's updated safety protocols, access is restricted to users aged 18 and older. The game's content is noted to include occasional mild "fear" and "violence."
This collaboration between Universal Pictures and Roblox highlights the platform's significant reach. By creating a game tied to The Odyssey, which is anticipated to attract an older demographic, Universal Pictures aims to engage a younger audience and encourage them to see the film.
Christopher Nolan, who also directed the critically acclaimed Oppenheimer, wrote and directed The Odyssey. The film features a star-studded cast including Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal also star.
