Fortnite players will soon encounter the legendary hero Odysseus, as Epic Games has announced a tie-in event celebrating Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey. The collaboration is set to arrive in the battle royale later this week, coinciding with the film's release.
Epic Games revealed the news on the official Fortnite X account on July 15, accompanied by a brief teaser. The clip features Matt Damon, who stars as Odysseus in Nolan's film, traversing environments reminiscent of ancient Greece. The teaser revisits scenes from previous trailers, including Odysseus and his crew entering a cyclops' cave and the hero adrift at sea.
This marks the second video game collaboration for Nolan's The Odyssey. Earlier in July, Roblox launched a free mode inspired by the movie. Director Christopher Nolan, known for his dedication to the cinematic experience, has previously shown an affinity for video games. In May 2020, the second trailer for his film Tenet premiered within Fortnite. Later that year, Epic Games hosted an event that allowed players to watch a selection of Nolan's films, such as Batman Begins, Inception, or The Prestige, within the game environment depending on their region.
The Odyssey is Nolan's first film since 2023's Oscar-winning Oppenheimer. Alongside Matt Damon in the lead role, the film features a cast including returning collaborators Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Himesh Patel, and Elliot Page. Newcomers to Nolan's films, Tom Holland, playing Odysseus' son Telemachus, and Zendaya, also join the ensemble. The Odyssey is scheduled for release in theaters on July 17.
