Cinder City, an upcoming online co-op shooter from South Korean publisher NC, has updated its PC system requirements following a notable player reaction to its initially listed specifications. The game, which was announced earlier this week and is described as a blend of games like The First Descendant and other zombie shooters, initially listed demanding RAM requirements on its Steam page.
When the system requirements first appeared, Cinder City asked for a minimum of 32GB of RAM, with a recommended specification of 64GB. This requirement drew significant attention, particularly given the current market conditions for RAM, which have seen escalating prices and shortages. The initial 64GB recommendation was reportedly the first instance of a PC game suggesting such a high amount of RAM.
The developer has since clarified that the original RAM figures were an error. In a statement on the game's Steam page, the development team admitted to the mistake and confirmed that the specifications have been corrected. The revised requirements now list 32GB of RAM for both minimum and recommended settings.
"We apologise for any confusion this may have caused. The information has now been updated to the correct specification (Recommended: 32GB RAM)," the developer stated. The statement also noted that the current requirements are based on a development build and may be further optimized, potentially leading to even lower final requirements closer to the game's launch.
Coinciding with the RAM adjustment, players also observed a change in the recommended GPU specification. The requirement was reportedly increased from an RTX 4060 to an RTX 4070. This shift in GPU demand occurred shortly after the RAM figures were corrected.
This situation is not unprecedented in the gaming industry. Previously, TT Games, the developer of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, reduced its recommended RAM from 32GB to 16GB before launch in response to player feedback. As the ongoing memory and storage market challenges persist, it is anticipated that more developers will focus on optimizing their titles to better accommodate more common hardware configurations, such as 16GB of RAM.
Cinder City does not yet have a confirmed release date. The game is being developed by Big Fire Games and published by NC.
