GOG is offering Daedalic's 2016 point-and-click adventure game Silence as a free download until Friday. The giveaway is part of GOG's ongoing Summer Sale.
While the author of the source material found Silence to be a personal disappointment due to an unlikable protagonist, irrelevant supporting characters, and a disjointed story, the game was generally well-received by critics. It holds a 75/100 aggregate score on Metacritic and a 3.9/5 rating from GOG users.
Despite individual reservations, the zero-cost nature of the offer makes it an easy acquisition. If the game does not meet expectations, there is no financial loss, and if it proves enjoyable, it represents a clear gain.
The Silence giveaway coincides with other deals in GOG's Summer Sale. The game's soundtrack by composer Tilo Alpermann is available for $0.29, a 90% discount. Additionally, several other Daedalic titles, including The Night of the Rabbit, Memoria, Harvey's New Eyes, Chains of Satinav, Deponia, and the predecessor The Whispered World, are each priced at $2, also a 90% discount. The GOG Summer Sale runs until July 9.
