Paramount+ has officially greenlit a sequel series to the beloved 1995 teen comedy Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone returning as Cher Horowitz. The series is slated to premiere on July 30, 2026, and will also feature Silverstone as an executive producer. Original film writer and director Amy Heckerling is also attached to the project.
The new series picks up 30 years after the events of the film, following Cher as she navigates her life as a successful business owner and a mother to a teenage daughter. The official logline suggests that Cher finds herself feeling "clueless" once again as she attempts to parent her teen.
Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2027, with CBS Studios handling the production. The creative team includes writers and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for their work on shows like The O.C. and Gossip Girl, alongside Jordan Weiss, creator of Dollface, and Robert Lawrence.
"Clueless is coming home," stated Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. "Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone's Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We're especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews."
This development marks a significant turn for the project, which was previously in development at Peacock. That platform canceled the Clueless sequel series in April 2026, a year after its initial announcement. However, strong interest in the concept led to predictions that another studio would quickly acquire it, a forecast that has now proven accurate.
Silverstone previously commented on the project in April 2025, noting that this iteration of Cher would be more mature and thoughtful than her high school counterpart. "I can't wait to step back into Cher's skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used. Of course, duh. Because she's evolved; this is 2025. She's not wearing the new stuff. Unless it's, you know, sustainable or vegan. I mean, we'll have to see how far we can go with that. But let's see," she told Entertainment Tonight.
The path to this series has been lengthy. In 2020, CBS TV Studios had initially planned a series centered on Dionne Davenport, Stacy Dash's character, but it failed to materialize before Peacock took over the project.
