The co-op climbing game Peak will receive its final major update, dubbed "Final Ascent," on August 11th. Developed by Aggro Crab and Landfall, this update introduces two new biomes, Gloom and The Citadel, which developers describe as a medieval dungeon tower and its eerie surrounding hellscape. These new areas are set to provide the concluding challenges for players and will ultimately wrap up the game's narrative that began at its launch.

The Final Ascent update will see the removal of two existing biomes, Caldera and Kiln, to make way for the new content. According to developer teases, the addition of Gloom and The Citadel aims to provide a climactic experience as players work to rescue a scout master who has reportedly formed a mysterious connection with the island setting of Peak. A trailer for the update also hints at potential new threats, with a brief glimpse of a "creepy hand" suggesting players might need to evade hazards as they ascend.

Launched over a year ago, Peak has been praised for its focus on cooperative gameplay and emergent player-driven stories. The game facilitates "wacky shenanigans among groups of mates," as described in a previous review. These emergent narratives often stem from players' interactions, such as testing the effects of in-game items on companions, leading to memorable and often humorous scenarios.
