Remedy Entertainment's upcoming action RPG, Control Resonant, will offer a significantly longer experience than its 2019 predecessor. Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov stated that the main story of Control Resonant is expected to take approximately 30 hours to complete, more than double the roughly 12 hours required for the original Control's main campaign. A completionist playthrough of Resonant is projected to take around 50 hours.
This substantial increase in playtime is attributed in part to the shift in setting. While the original Control was confined to the interiors of the Oldest House, Control Resonant will take place on the streets of New York City. This new environment allows for a much larger scale and greater opportunities for exploration. Remedy has described the game's map as featuring open-ended zones designed to encourage player freedom in approaching objectives, suggesting a greater amount of optional content beyond the main narrative.
The expanded playtime also implies a more extensive narrative. Remedy's previous title, Alan Wake 2, a more linear game, takes approximately 20 hours to complete, indicating the studio's capability to deliver lengthy, intricate stories. Despite the many changes, Remedy has indicated that Control Resonant remains a faithful follow-up to the original game.
Control Resonant is slated for release on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
