This quote originates from a scene in the 2017 series Twin Peaks: The Return, where David Lynch himself, playing the character Gordon Cole, delivers the line. The phrase has since become significant, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community and trans rights activism.
Lynch, who passed away in January 2025, was celebrated for his distinctive blend of surrealism, horror, and absurdity in works like Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive. These stylistic elements have been evident in Remedy's games, including Control and Alan Wake 2.
