Remedy Entertainment has provided an estimated playtime for its forthcoming game, Control Resonant, indicating that the main story campaign will take approximately 30 hours to complete. Players aiming for full completion, including all side objectives and secrets, can expect the experience to extend to around 50 hours.
Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov discussed the game's length and its combat evolution in a recent interview. Mohov stated that Control Resonant's design philosophy draws heavily from the original Control, aiming to retain its core identity while introducing more aggressive, melee-focused gameplay. "We wanted to make a sequel that is spiritually and experientially similar to the first game, so it still feels like a Control game. But we also wanted to have more of this melee-focused, in-your-face, aggressive gameplay at the same time," Mohov explained.
The development team referenced a wide array of influences, including other games and media, but emphasized that Control Resonant aims for a unique synthesis of these elements. Mohov cited titles like Devil May Cry 2 and 3, as well as games from PlatinumGames, as inspirations for specific gameplay components. However, he stressed that the game does not directly replicate any single title, stating, "I think you probably haven't played anything that is exactly like this."
Early hands-on impressions have corroborated the shift towards more dynamic combat, describing a system that encourages dashes, double-jumps, and extensive aerial combos, reminiscent of stylish action games. Control Resonant is scheduled for release on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
