Super AC, a French publisher and developer, has officially announced Covenant of Gears: The Three Musketeers, an upcoming tactical role-playing game set in a reimagined 17th-century France. The game blends alternate history with steampunk technology and draws inspiration from Alexandre Dumas' classic novels, featuring the iconic characters Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan as the player's party. Each of these four main characters is assigned a distinct class: D'Artagnan as the warrior, Porthos as the tank, Athos as the sharpshooter, and Aramis as the assassin. Players will be able to customize their skill trees and unlock synergistic character actions.
The game's mechanics are designed to evoke the spirit of classic CRPGs, featuring real-time combat with a tactical pause option. A significant feature is the inclusion of a modular campaign editor, allowing players to create and share their own adventures and locations via the Steam Workshop. This element is reminiscent of the extensive modding communities surrounding older titles like Neverwinter Nights.
Covenant of Gears: The Three Musketeers is slated for an early access launch in the fourth quarter of 2027. The developer plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign soon to secure funding for additional personnel and operational expenses. While the game aims to capture a nostalgic feel, its developers appear to be focusing on original gameplay and narrative elements to ensure it stands on its own.
