Creative Assembly has confirmed that a rework for the Bretonnia faction in Total War: Warhammer is on the studio's to-do list. While the developers are proud of their past work, they acknowledge that the faction is showing its age and could benefit from updates.
Richard Aldridge, a developer at Creative Assembly, stated that the Bretonnia rework is "certainly on our to-do list, it's on our radar, just like the Vampire Counts were." He added that the studio knew players wanted it and that they had ideas for it, noting that the addition of Nagash and Neferata in a previous update made more sense of the faction's prolonged development time.
Sean Macdonald, another developer, echoed this sentiment, explaining that as the team has "skilled up, as individuals developed, and as the tools have improved," older content inevitably shows its age. He described the process as an "ouroboros of updating content infinitely" and noted that while the team would be happy with the current state of the faction, there are "a couple of places where we think maybe we're not."
The development team has been prioritizing faction reworks, having recently addressed the Vampire Counts and Norsca. The article notes that Bretonnia is arguably the faction most in need of a rework, with the Lizardmen following closely behind.
Sean Martin, writing for PC Gamer, commented on the irony of Bretonnia, a feudal society, aging poorly. He found their cavalry strong and their economy viable, but noted a lack of dedicated mechanics and options compared to other factions. Martin expressed hope for Bretonnia's future, trusting Creative Assembly's track record with previous reworks.
