Pearl Abyss is actively researching the integration of multiplayer modes into its successful action role-playing game, Crimson Desert, and is also considering potential sequels for the franchise. The developer confirmed these plans in its latest financial report, outlining a follow-up strategy for the game that has already achieved significant commercial success.

Since its launch on March 19, Crimson Desert has generated substantial revenue, earning approximately KRW 266.5 billion (around $178.8 million) within its first two weeks, with over 80% of sales originating from North America and Europe. In the second quarter of 2026 (April to June), the game sold an additional 2.11 million copies, contributing KRW 136.1 billion (approximately $96.3 million) to Pearl Abyss's earnings. This brings the game's total revenue in just over three months to over a quarter of a billion dollars.

Pearl Abyss plans to release DLC for Crimson Desert within the current year, with an announcement expected in the third quarter. The specifics of the DLC are still being refined, but players have noted unused areas on the map, such as the Sunbaked Peaks region, which could be part of a future story expansion. The company stated that the number and release cadence of DLCs are not yet finalized, as the primary focus is on the quality and execution of the first downloadable content pack.

Furthermore, Crimson Desert is slated for a Nintendo Switch 2 release in the first half of next year. Pearl Abyss is conducting technical reviews for performance optimization and quality compliance for the Switch 2 version, emphasizing the need to preserve the game's graphics, combat, and open-world experience across all platforms. The company aims to make Crimson Desert available on as many platforms as possible, though porting requires careful consideration to maintain the game's core elements.

The developer is conducting extensive research into the feasibility of multiplayer modes, acknowledging the complexity involved in integrating such features. This includes evaluating server architecture, game balance, cross-platform stability, and live service operations. While multiplayer is a significant area of interest for extending player engagement with the Crimson Desert IP, a mobile version of the game is not currently planned.

Pearl Abyss views Crimson Desert not as a standalone title, but as a core flagship IP intended for long-term growth. The company is open to various expansion possibilities, including additional content, platform availability, and sequels. However, immediate development priorities remain focused on the current game's DLC and upcoming projects. Future franchise opportunities will be evaluated based on user feedback, market conditions, and commercial performance.
