Pearl Abyss has unveiled a comprehensive list of features for Crimson Desert's upcoming DLC, Charting the Unknown, confirming ambitious additions including extensive ocean exploration and a romance system that can lead to marriage. The DLC, previously announced with a slight delay, is now scheduled for release on October 29th across all platforms.
Charting the Unknown aims to significantly overhaul the base game with new systems and content. Among the most prominent new features is ocean exploration, which allows players to dive beneath the waves to discover underwater ruins, treasures, creatures, and mounts. While no special prerequisites are needed to dive, players must manage their oxygen supply. On the surface, players can construct ships and sail to various islands, engaging in pirate encounters. This feature becomes accessible after completing a new questline initiated by setting up Greymane Camp at Howling Hill.
Expanded Social and Combat Features
The DLC also introduces a romance system, enabling players to deepen bonds with certain NPCs, potentially leading to marriage. Companions who players grow close to may also visit and interact within their Greymane Camp, adding a more vibrant atmosphere. Furthermore, Charting the Unknown will add three new post-game story arcs focusing on the characters Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane, accessible through the Journal menu after completing the main story.
A new combat-focused area called the Garden of Trials will challenge players by pitting them against a succession of bosses encountered throughout the game. Successful completion of this content will yield special rewards. Access to the Garden of Trials is granted after finishing the main questline.
New Systems and Management Opportunities
Players will also gain access to an upgraded housing system, allowing for more detailed customization of their in-game homes. This system, along with the ability to claim and decorate three specific Greymane Castles, becomes available after completing the main story and relevant faction quests. The castles can be liberated and then personalized with unique objects and furnishings.
The DLC introduces a management system where players can rent and operate various businesses across Pywel, such as restaurants and smithies. These businesses become available on the world map after liberating the relevant regions and establishing the Greymane Camp.
Charting the Unknown builds upon Crimson Desert's existing world with these extensive additions, promising a significantly expanded experience for players upon its release later this month.
