Developer Pearl Abyss has announced a two-week delay for Crimson Desert's upcoming expansion, 'Charting the Unknown,' pushing its release date from October 15 to October 29. The studio cited the need for additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience.
"We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologize for the longer wait," Pearl Abyss stated in a message on Steam and social media. "We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can."
Charting the Unknown Expansion Details
First confirmed in June and given a more formal reveal during a September State of Play showcase, 'Charting the Unknown' aims to significantly expand Crimson Desert's already vast open world. The DLC will introduce new gameplay elements centered around the open waters of Pywel. Players will be able to sail across the ocean, dive underwater to discover treasures and explore submerged ruins, and even interact with aquatic life. Beyond exploration, the expansion will also allow players to construct homes and other properties, and pursue romantic relationships within the game's world.
The expansion's narrative will weave new stories across Pywel, featuring elements such as a mysterious desert presence, political conflicts, a journey beyond time, and ancient secrets hidden beneath the waves. Players will follow the characters Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they navigate these new challenges and shape their destinies.
Crimson Desert has achieved significant commercial success since its release, selling over six million copies. 'Charting the Unknown' is set to be available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X upon its revised October 29 launch.
