Crimson Desert's first expansion, Charting the Unknown, has been delayed from its original mid-October release to October 29th. Pearl Abyss announced the shift, citing a need for additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience. The expansion was originally slated to arrive in October.
The studio stated, "We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel," but determined that the extra weeks are necessary for fine-tuning the numerous open-world activities included. While specifics on the refinements were not provided, the expansion's Steam page outlines new content that includes an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey beyond time, and an ancient secret beneath the waves. Players can also expect ship sailing, deep ocean diving, house building, and relationship forging.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will also feature an AI-generated content disclosure. Pearl Abyss noted that generative AI technology was used in a supplementary capacity for some 2D prop assets, but these have since been replaced by their art and development teams to meet quality standards. This follows an incident where some AI-generated assets inadvertently leaked into the game's release version, prompting an apology from Pearl Abyss and a promise to audit all in-game assets.
