Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert's first substantial downloadable content expansion, titled "Charting the Unknown," will launch on October 15th. This new chapter ventures beyond the game's existing crimson desert into a previously hidden realm.

The expansion was revealed during a recent PlayStation State of Play presentation. "Charting the Unknown" promises to expand Crimson Desert's open world with new mechanics and features. Players will guide the protagonist, Kliff, to a hidden land where, according to in-game lore, countless people met their end long ago, staining the sands crimson.

Elements hinted at in the trailer include potential romance mechanics, with Kliff seen offering flowers to a witch, suggesting possibilities for relationships or marriage. Players may also engage in base building and decoration, with interfaces resembling those found in The Sims series, alongside NPC recruitment for their dwellings. Naval gameplay is also featured, with Kliff piloting a frigate and even diving into the ocean, seemingly from the back of a flying robotic dragon.

The primary antagonist in "Charting the Unknown" appears to be a colossal mechanical entity, a floating, multi-winged spaceship-like creature referred to as the Abyssal Horror.
