Pearl Abyss has announced a slight delay for Crimson Desert's first major paid downloadable content, "Charting the Unknown." Originally slated for an October 15 release, the expansion will now launch on October 29. The developer cited the need for additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience.
"We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel," the game's X account stated. "However, we have determined that we need additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience."
This short two-week delay comes after a period of rapid development and patching for Crimson Desert following its initial March release. Pearl Abyss consistently rolled out updates, introducing significant new content, quality-of-life improvements, and gameplay adjustments within the first month. By August, these cumulative updates led to the game being rebranded as "Crimson Desert Enhanced."
The "Charting the Unknown" DLC promises substantial new content, including seafaring mechanics with buildable ships and the ability to explore new islands via sailing and underwater diving. Players can also expect new quests, storylines, enemies, bosses, property rentals, facility management, and a relationship system for interacting with NPCs in Pywel. The expansion aims to expand the game world significantly, introducing naval exploration and base-building elements.
Pearl Abyss extended apologies to players looking forward to the new content, emphasizing their commitment to refining the DLC. "We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologize for the longer wait," the statement continued. "We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can."
