Crimson Desert is slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the first half of 2027, developer Pearl Abyss announced. The company confirmed this while also expressing significant interest in expanding the single-player open-world fantasy game into multiplayer modes, exploring potential live service operation models.

Pearl Abyss shared these details in its Q2 2026 financial results letter. While the game is playable on Switch 2 at a foundational level, the company stated that significant optimization is required to meet its quality standards. Platform expansion is a key priority, though immediate plans for a mobile port are not in place, as maintaining the game's graphical fidelity, action combat, and seamless open-world experience across all target devices is crucial.

The developer views Crimson Desert as a "core flagship IP" and sees substantial potential for extending its lifecycle through content updates and potential franchise expansion. This includes planned DLCs, the first of which is currently in development and targeting a release within the current year.

Regarding multiplayer, Pearl Abyss noted that integrating such features is a complex technical undertaking. It requires extensive research into server architecture, game balance, cross-platform stability, and live service operation models. The company aims to extend user engagement with the Crimson Desert IP over the long term and will provide further details as plans materialize. The game, which has already received numerous updates since its March release to address issues and add new content, was described in a review as visually impressive and vast, resembling an MMO despite its single-player focus.
