Marisha Ray, a prominent voice actor from the popular web series Critical Role, has joined the cast of the Final Fantasy VII remake project. She will be lending her voice to Polydroid Shiva, an alternate version of the iconic ice summon.
This casting was revealed during a panel at New York Comic Con. Polydroid Shiva appears to be a digitized, NPC-style rendition of the summon, similar to the blocky character models seen in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Fort Condor minigame. The character is intended to run the amusement park's snowboarding minigame, which has apparently encountered some issues.
A clip shared during the Final Fantasy VII Revelation panel featured Polydroid Shiva conversing with Vincent Valentine. Notably, Vincent is voiced by Matt Mercer, Ray's real-life husband. The narrative sets up Vincent as the one tasked with resolving the snowboarding minigame's problems, leading to dialogue exchanges between the two characters.
The integration of the real-life couple into these interacting roles was highlighted as a clever narrative choice, with the clip suggesting both actors enjoyed the collaboration.
