Darrington Press, the tabletop publishing arm of Critical Role, has announced a new Daggerheart campaign titled "Reign of the Weredragon." This actual-play miniseries is set to combine classic fairy tale elements with a distinctly eerie atmosphere, all under the guidance of former Dungeons & Dragons creative director and game designer Chris Perkins. Perkins, who also serves as the creative director of Darrington Press, co-created "Reign of the Weredragon" as part of Daggerheart's first expansion, "Hope & Fear."
This new miniseries is positioned to serve as an introduction to the "Hope & Fear" expansion, offering players and viewers a direct experience with its new mechanics and setting. Perkins brings extensive experience as a Game Master, including his tenure as Dungeon Master for Wizards of the Coast's "Dice, Camera, Action" and co-hosting the "Acquisitions Incorporated" actual play show. His familiarity with performing in front of a camera is expected to be a significant asset to "Reign of the Weredragon."
The announcement was made at Gen Con, an event that saw numerous reveals from various tabletop game publishers. While the exact release date for "Reign of the Weredragon" has not yet been disclosed, it is anticipated to run as a miniseries, potentially in parallel with Critical Role's main campaign, which utilizes the D&D system. This follows other recent Daggerheart content, such as the gothic adventure "Age of Umbra: Sallowlands," which features actors Abubakar Salim and Jennifer English and is scheduled to conclude mid-August. Critical Role's main Campaign 4 is also set to return on August 27th, providing fans with ongoing content while they await the "Reign of the Weredragon" debut.
