Critical Role is venturing into new territory with its latest actual play miniseries, Shattered Legends, a collaboration with Hololive Production. The new campaign will be set in the established world of Exandria and will be considered canon to the existing Critical Role lore. The series is set to launch in mid-November 2026.
This partnership will integrate virtual YouTubers from Hololive into Critical Role's narrative universe. Unlike Critical Role's main campaigns, which utilize Dungeons & Dragons, Shattered Legends will be played using Daggerheart, the tabletop role-playing game developed by Critical Role's publishing arm, Darrington Press.
Matthew Mercer, co-founder of Critical Role, will serve as the Game Master for Shattered Legends. Marisha Ray, another co-founder, will be the sole regular cast member participating as a player. Joining Ray will be Hololive talents Nerissa Ravencroft, Mori Calliope, Shiori Novella, and Gig Murin. The format for integrating live players with virtual avatars is yet to be detailed.
Fans will be able to watch Shattered Legends on Critical Role's streaming platform, Beacon. The platform will also host exclusive content, including a "Session Zero" detailing character creation and backstories, alongside post-episode "Cooldown" discussions. Additionally, episodes will be available on the official YouTube channels for Critical Role, Nerissa Ravencroft, and Hololive English.
Beyond the miniseries, Critical Role and Hololive plan a promotional tour that will visit conventions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Further details regarding exclusive merchandise and other planned collaborations will be announced at a later date. Shattered Legends follows Critical Role's previous Daggerheart miniseries, Age of Umbra: Sallowlands, and promises a unique presentation with its integration of VTubers.
