Critical Role's fourth campaign has, since its October 2025 debut, proven to be an emotional journey filled with intense battles, shocking twists, and, as is often the case with Dungeons & Dragons, significant character deaths. With a large cast of 13 players and Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan at the helm, the campaign's unique West Marches-style structure has fostered numerous unpredictable and wild moments.

As the second arc of Campaign 4 prepares to launch, here are five of the most impactful events that have shaped the ongoing narrative.

The Destruction of Houses Royce and Davinos

In the early episodes of Campaign 4, the arrival of House Tachonis assassins at Palazzo Davinos led to a brutal massacre of the Royce, Davinos, and the initially presumed-dead, later-recovered, Occtis Tachonis households. This event, occurring while the player characters were still at low levels, established a grim, Game of Thrones-esque tone. The constant threat of character death underscored the high stakes and the precariousness of the players' situations.

The Death of Casimir Gavendale

The demise of Crow Keeper Casimir Gavendale, the individual responsible for betraying his old war buddy Thjazi Fang, was a pivotal moment. Thjazi's death galvanized Thimble and the other members of the Soldiers' table. Seeking revenge, they pursued Casimir to his castle. A dramatic rain-soaked battle between Thimble and Casimir on the castle ramparts concluded with Thimble's victory, showcasing her formidable combat prowess and setting a precedent for the consequences of crossing the player characters.

House Tachonis's Celestial Monster Plot

The Seekers table uncovered a sinister plot orchestrated by House Tachonis during their exploration of a holy temple. They discovered that the god Tansul had instructed his priest to transform into a celestial monster, a weapon of mass destruction. House Tachonis intended to use Occtis Tachonis as the sacrifice for this ritual, aiming to unleash this power against their enemies. Fortunately, Bolaire Lathalia and Murray Mag’nesson intervened and thwarted these plans.

The Fake Resurrection of Yanessa Halovar

A significant reveal occurred during the Schemers Arc when Photarch Yanessa Halovar appeared to die after an assassination attempt at an Arcanada gala. While divination wizard Murray Mag’nesson attempted to influence the outcome of Yanessa's death saving throw, it was discovered that the Photarch had been faking her own demise. This revelation overturned Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan's intended narrative of a genuine resurrection and provided a shocking twist for the players and the audience.

Restoration of the Bridge to the Dying Fields

A central conflict in Campaign 4 has been the fate of souls after death, a problem exacerbated by the destruction of the gods and the subsequent madness and destruction of the celestials responsible for guiding souls. This has led to souls becoming trapped in limbo, bolstering the power of necromancy-focused Sundered Houses. The secret group known as The Cloak, led in part by Thjazi Fang, has been working to reestablish the lost bridges to the afterlives. The successful restoration of a bridge to the orcish afterlife, the Dying Fields, during Halandil Fang's performance marked a crucial victory in their fight against the Sundered Houses and a significant step toward resolving the campaign's overarching predicament.
