Critical Role's proprietary streaming platform, Beacon, has received substantial updates aimed at improving the viewing experience for its subscribers. After more than two years since its initial launch, the platform now offers access on smart televisions and the ability to download content for offline viewing.

Previously, Beacon was primarily accessible via mobile devices and web browsers, with no option for smart TV integration or content downloads. These limitations have been addressed with the new features. Critters can now access Beacon on smart TV platforms including Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, and Roku. Critical Role has indicated plans to expand compatibility to additional devices as they gather user feedback on desired features.

In addition to smart TV support, users can now download campaign episodes, miniseries, and other content directly to their iOS and Android devices. This functionality allows for uninterrupted viewing without a stable internet connection, a significant benefit for travelers or those in areas with unreliable service. To download content, users simply open the desired video within the app and select the new download button, with downloaded episodes accessible from the app's menu.

The platform's developers recommend keeping the Beacon app open during the download process due to the extended length of Critical Role episodes, to prevent potential download interruptions. The introduction of these features aligns with Critical Role's stated goal of creating an audience-first experience for Beacon, following the February hiring of Alyssa Zeisler as general manager. These upgrades represent a significant enhancement to how fans can engage with Critical Role's extensive library of content.
