Webtoon will soon host the acclaimed prequel comic series "Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins." The digital comic platform and Dark Horse Comics, which deepened their partnership last year by bringing several major franchises to Webtoon, announced the upcoming release during San Diego Comic-Con.
This marks the second Critical Role title to arrive on Webtoon, following the "Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins" series. The "Vox Machina Origins" comic chronicles the adventures of the legendary group before they became the mighty heroes known today. The story follows six disparate individuals who meet in the coastal town of Stillben, where they must band together to uncover a plot threatening the city and potentially themselves.
A preview of the comic's synopsis reads: "A mysterious curse plagues the coastal town of Stillben. Six would-be heroes traveling different roads meet, fight each other—then fight together—as they uncover a plot to destroy the city (and possibly themselves)! Meet Vox Machina. One day they'll save the world. Eventually."
The "Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins" comic has previously been available in a traditional comic format, but its arrival on Webtoon will feature a vertical-scroll layout optimized for mobile reading. The tales of Vox Machina have been presented across various media, including the original actual-play Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Critical Role's own productions, and the Prime Video animated series "The Legend of Vox Machina."
The first three episodes of "Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins" are set to launch on Webtoon for free on August 4, 2026. Each season will consist of 56 episodes, with an additional five episodes available each season through Webtoon's Fast Pass system, purchasable with Webtoon Coins.
