Cyberpunk 2 Development Reflects Team's Collective Vision, Says Director

Development on Cyberpunk 2 is evolving into a collaborative effort, with its game director Gabe Amatangelo sharing insights into how the sequel's vision is expanding. As CD Projekt Red assigns more personnel to the project, Amatangelo noted that the game is becoming a 'reflection' of the team working on it, incorporating their unique ideas.

Amatangelo explained that while he originated the core concept for Cyberpunk 2, the project transforms as he involves more individuals. "It becomes something else, right? It becomes this thing that I've shepherded, but it's ultimately a reflection of the team's hearts and souls. And I look forward to sharing that," he stated in a recent blog post. He also expressed his hope that video games will continue to have a profound impact on future generations, drawing from his own positive experiences with the medium.

While specific release details for Cyberpunk 2 remain undisclosed, it is part of CD Projekt Red's larger development slate. The studio is also committed to releasing a Witcher game trilogy within a six-year timeframe, beginning with The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red aims to avoid a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077's troubled launch, which was marred by bugs and performance issues that required extensive post-launch patching. Despite its initial problems, Cyberpunk 2077 has since seen significant improvements, received substantial free content, and garnered critical acclaim with its Phantom Liberty expansion. The game continues to be a strong seller, particularly during sales events. Interest in the Cyberpunk universe is also expected to be boosted by the upcoming second season of the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and a recently announced Cyberpunk 2077 film from Paramount.
