CD Projekt Red is seeking developers for the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Cyberpunk 2, and a recent job listing suggests that multiplayer functionality may be a key feature. The listing, specifically in its "Nice to Have" section, mentions a need for "Understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests." This indicates that CD Projekt Red is considering or actively developing multiplayer components, potentially including shared quests, for the upcoming title.
This move would represent a return to the studio's original post-launch plans for Cyberpunk 2077, which were later scrapped. The inclusion of multiplayer in the sequel could allow CD Projekt Red to realize a more comprehensive multiplayer vision than was initially planned for the first game. Coincidentally, a fan-made mod named NightCoop has recently enabled co-op multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red is currently engaged in several other projects. The Witcher 3 will soon receive the Songs of the Past expansion, developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory. Following this, The Witcher 4 is slated for a 2028 release and is intended to begin a new trilogy. Fool's Theory is also working on a remake of The Witcher 1. Cyberpunk 2 is expected to launch after The Witcher 4, and the studio is also developing Project Hadar, a new standalone intellectual property that is currently in its foundational stages.
