Cyberpunk 2 May Feature Multiplayer, CD Projekt Red Job Listing Suggests

CD Projekt Red may be revisiting multiplayer ambitions for its Cyberpunk franchise, according to a recent job listing for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. The studio is looking for a lead quest programmer and has listed "understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests" as a desirable qualification.

This mention does not confirm that the sequel will include online modes, but it suggests that CD Projekt Red is exploring such possibilities. Previously, Cyberpunk 2077 was planned to feature a multiplayer component post-launch. However, due to the game's troubled initial release, the studio shifted focus to stabilizing the base game, eventually stating that multiplayer would be a separate, "triple-A release."

In the past, Cyberpunk 2077's senior quest designer, Philipp Weber, indicated that the company intended to "bring online into all of our franchises one day" by developing a versatile online technology. More recently, CD Projekt CEO Adam Badowski confirmed in 2024 that multiplayer elements were "considering" for the Cyberpunk sequel during its early conceptual stages.

Details about the Cyberpunk sequel remain scarce, though CD Projekt Red has continued to support Cyberpunk 2077 with updates. The game recently received an update celebrating the release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 on Netflix, introducing features such as dual-wielding and cross-platform mod support.
