Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Edgerunners II-Themed Update with New Quests, Mod Support, and More

CD Projekt Red has released a new update for Cyberpunk 2077, version 2.5, which introduces a host of new content and features, many of which are themed around the second season of the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II. The patch, available on October 22, brings substantial additions to the six-year-old RPG, including new quests, expanded customization options, and long-requested gameplay mechanics.

Edgerunners Content and New Quests

A central addition is a new quest that serves as a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II. This quest will feature characters from the anime, voiced by their original actors, offering a deeper dive into the series' narrative. Complementing this is a new in-game radio station dedicated to songs from both seasons of the anime. Additionally, players can embark on a "Night City Tour" quest. Guided by the city's founder, Richard Night, this lore-focused experience aims to provide historical context for Night City, though it may present a biased perspective. There's also an underlying mystery to uncover within this quest.

Gameplay Enhancements and Customization

The update introduces dual-wielding as a new skill accessible through the skill tree, allowing players to wield two pistols or revolvers simultaneously, opening up new combat possibilities. Photo Mode has also been updated with new poses to accommodate this new combat style. Cyberware customization receives a significant boost with 40 new cosmetic looks, each offering different color and visual variants that can be altered at various glamdocs.

Players can also acquire new clothing items, some of which are inspired by characters from the Edgerunners anime, similar to the previous addition of David's coat. The game's collectible Tarot cards have also been expanded with several new cards to discover scattered throughout the city. Furthermore, five sets of clothing previously available only through Twitch drops have been integrated into the base game, with new vehicle cosmetic drops coming to Twitch.

Technical Improvements and Mod Support

On the technical front, the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 is receiving optimizations, while console players will gain access to field-of-view settings. The game will also support DLSS 4.5. A significant new feature is the introduction of mod support for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Through a partnership with mod.io, players will be able to access, search for, and download mods directly within the game, although some limitations will apply. CD Projekt Red has cautioned that installing too many mods concurrently could potentially destabilize the game.
