Night City is expanding its player capacity this week with the upcoming open beta of the NightCoop mod, a fan-made project that introduces co-operative multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077. The mod enables up to eight players to traverse Night City simultaneously, with gameplay synchronization extending to combat and stealth mechanics. Even actions like activating a Sandevistan to slow time will be visually represented for all participants, mimicking effects seen in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.
Player choices regarding dialogue and in-game events will be determined by a group vote, with the majority decision implemented for all players. A recent trailer showcased a heist scenario where one player managed drones and cameras while another engaged in a direct assault. The mod is scheduled to enter its open beta phase on October 23rd at 11 a.m. EDT.
According to NightCoop's official website, the mod will also feature an optional player-versus-player mode, controllable by the host. These PvP encounters will factor in character stats and equipment, while also adjusting damage to create a more balanced experience between players of different levels.
To set up the NightCoop mod, players will need to install both the mod itself and the RED4ext library. Hosts can then load an existing save file or start a new game, with other players joining as their own custom characters, known as 'V'. CD Projekt Red has a history of supporting fan modifications, even integrating mod support into console versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and now Cyberpunk 2077. The RED4ext modding library alone boasts over 12.6 million downloads on Nexus Mods, highlighting the significant player interest in community-created additions to the game.
