A live-action adaptation of the video game Cyberpunk 2077 is in development, with Paramount set to produce the film. Skydance, a subsidiary of Paramount, will oversee the project.
CD Projekt Red, the game's developer, will serve as producers on the film. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for producing the Transformers film series and the 2005 Doom movie, is attached as a producer. The news was first reported by Deadline.
Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, stated, "We're excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time."
The game features a star-studded cast, including Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba. Elba has previously expressed interest in a live-action adaptation alongside Reeves, who also stars in Paramount's upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
This adaptation comes as Skydance and Paramount consolidate their gaming divisions. The combined entity is expected to oversee projects based on various intellectual properties, including Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Rick and Morty, the DC Universe, Game of Thrones, and Mortal Kombat. Further details regarding casting, plot, and a release date for the Cyberpunk 2077 film have not yet been announced.
