Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie in Development at Paramount

A live-action film adaptation of CD Projekt Red's acclaimed RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, is reportedly in development at Paramount. The project is still in its early stages, with no specific details regarding plot, casting, writers, or directors yet announced.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a producer known for the Transformers film series, is attached to the developing movie. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series, will also be involved in the production.

Since its challenging launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has seen significant improvements through numerous free updates and the substantial Phantom Liberty expansion released in 2023. The game, which features Keanu Reeves as the character Johnny Silverhand, has achieved over 40 million copies sold worldwide. A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is also confirmed to be in development by CD Projekt Red.

This move marks another addition to Hollywood's increasing interest in video game adaptations. Recent successes such as Amazon's Fallout and HBO's The Last of Us, along with films like Sonic, Minecraft, and Super Mario, have demonstrated the viability of translating video games to the screen. This trend has led to a surge in adaptations of popular gaming titles.

Paramount's involvement comes at a time of corporate restructuring, following the company's merger with Warner Bros. to form the new entity Skydance, led by David Ellison. Bobby Kotick, former CEO of Activision, has also joined the board of the new company.
