Cyberpunk 2077 Modders Bring Shotguns and Rifles to Dual Wielding

Cyberpunk 2077's recently introduced dual wielding mechanic has quickly been expanded by the modding community to support a far wider array of weaponry, including shotguns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. This allows players to wield two long guns simultaneously, a significant departure from the pistol-only implementation in the game's Edgerunners 2 update.

Several mods have emerged to enable this functionality. "Dual Wield Anything" by E3roKK, "Dual Wield Anything and Everything for 2.5" by Jollywankers, and "Expanded Dual Wielding" by JericoHellden all grant players the ability to equip and fire any two guns at once. JericoHellden's mod also offers the option to control each weapon independently, rather than the game's default alternating fire. For those who prefer independent control but only want to dual wield pistols, Dederara's "Independent Pistol Controls (Dual Wielding)" mod is available.

As CD Projekt Red alluded to when limiting the official dual wielding to pistols, extending it to heavier weapons without balancing adjustments can create a considerable power imbalance. Modders acknowledge that these setups can become "janky and wildly overpowered," and players should expect some awkward animations and clipping due to the unconventional combinations. The current implementations are primarily focused on ranged combat, with dual wielding for melee weapons still in early, experimental stages.

Running these mods requires up-to-date versions of essential framework tools. Cyber Engine Tweaks is a prerequisite for all mentioned mods, while "Expanded Dual Wielding" also requires Redscript.
